    Architecture in Dubai

    Dubai in 1990

    The same street in 2003

Dubai is said to currently have 15-25% of all the world's cranes

The Dubai Waterfront. When completed it will become the largest waterfront development in the world

The Palm Islands in Dubai. New Dutch dredging technology was used to create these massive man made islands. They are the largest artificial islands in the world and can be seen from space. Three of these Palms will be made with the last one being the largest of them all.

Upon completion, the resort will have 2,000 villas, 40 luxury hotels, shopping centers, movie theaters, and many other facilities. It is expected to support a population of approximately 500,000 people. It is advertised as being visible from the moon.

The World Islands. 300 artificially created islands in the shape of the world. Each island will have an estimated cost of $25-30 million.

The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai. The worlds tallest hotel. Considered the only '7 star' hotel and the most luxurious hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island in the sea

Hydropolis, the world's first underwater hotel. Entirely built in Germany and then assembled in Dubai, it is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2006

The Burj Dubai. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be complete by 2008. At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily the be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Taipei 101

This is what downtown Dubai will look like around 2008-2009. Fifty stories (around 190 meters) of the Burj Dubai have already been completed

The Al Burj. This will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Waterfront. Upon completion it will rival The Burj Dubai for the title of tallest building in the world

The exact height of the building is being kept strictly confidential for reasons of competition. Since the Al Burj and Burj Dubai are both striving to become the world's tallest building, it is rumored that the Al Burj will be built a little higher since the Burj Dubai will be completed first.
The Burj al Alam, or The World Tower. Upon completion it will rank as the world's highest hotel. It is expected to be finished by 2009.
At 480 meters it will only be 28 meters shorter than the Taipei 101

Dubailand. Currently, the largest amusement park collection in the world is Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, which is also the largest single-site employer in the United states with 58,000 employees. Dubailand will be twice the size

Dubailand will be built on 3 billion square feet (107 miles^2) at an estimated $20 billion price tag. The site will include a purported 45 mega projects and 200 hundred other smaller projects

Dubai Sports City. A huge collection of sports arenas located in Dubailand.
Currently, the Walt Disney World Resort is the #1 tourist destination in the world. Once fully completed, Dubailand will easily take over that title since it is expected to attract 200,000 visitors daily

Ocean Heights and The Princess Tower, two huge luxury condominium and apartment towers to be built on the Dubai Marina. At over 100 stories tall, The Princess Tower will become the largest residential building in the world after construction is done.
The Dubai Marina is an entirely man made development that will contain over 200 highrise buildings when finished. It will be home to some of the tallest residential structures in the world. The completed first phase of the project is shown. Most of the other high rise buildings will be finished by 2008

The Dubai Mall will be the largest shopping mall in the world with over 9 million square feet of shopping and around 1000 stores. It will be completed in 2008.
Ski Dubai, which is already open, is the largest indoor skiing facility in the world.
Some of the tallest buildings in the world will line the Dubai Marina.
The UAE Spaceport would be the first spaceport in the world if construction ever gets under way. All right this is getting a bit ridiculous.
    Some other other crazy facts.
The Dubai Metro system, once completed, will become the largest fully automated rail system in the world.
The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume.
There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens (although Dubai does has a 80% expatriate population).
here is their latest projoct its called Falcon City. Falcon City of Wonders will be a unique tourist attraction, as it will capture the spirit of ancient civilizations and contain architectural marvels of the world, combined with modern facilities. It will be a city shaped like a falcon and contain life-size replicas of seven wonders of the world - the Great Pyramid in Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Lighthouse at Alexandria, Taj Mahal, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall of China

The Central Park Towers, which will be located at the base of the Falconcity of Wonders project in the feet of the Falcon beside the international cities such as Rome, Venice Beirut, and India, will comprise a total of 24 towers made up of residential, commercial and hotel towers. At the center of this project will be a 1 million square feet park to complete the recreation of New York City's Central Park. Moreover, there will be 29 floors dedicated to parking, which will be strategically located to ensure easy access for residents and visitors

    World Largest Apartment Building
The building is said to have windows that attract sollar energy and converts it to electricity. When completed
the building will generate more energy than it consumes

    Dubai Mall
Thirty-five million people are expected to visit the Dubai Mall, developed by Emaar Properties, during 2006, its inaugural year. There's plenty to do, since, at more than 5 million square feet, it's the biggest mall in the world. It will house 15 sub-malls, a skating rink, an aquarium, and the planet's biggest gold souk (market).

    Ski Dubai
When one thinks of a vacation in Dubai, the first images that might to come to mind are sun and sand. Now add snow. Two feet of snow, topped with a daily layer of fresh powder, to be exact -- thanks to the system of 23 blast coolers and snow guns inside Ski Dubai. It might be 135 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors, but inside the 32,290 square-foot, $275 million structure, visitors ski and snowboard. The heavily insulated facility also includes the world's largest indoor snow park, offering 9,842 square feet for sledding or bobsledding

    UAE Spaceport
    Space Adventures
With an estimated price tag of at least $265 million, the world's first spaceport is strategically located to serve both residents and visitors to Dubai. The UAE spaceport actually falls inside the border of a nearby emirate, Ras Al-Khaimah, but it's a quick drive from Dubai, and the developer, America's Space Adventures, is clearly targeting Dubai tourists and residents.
While there's no official opening date or final design set, early renderings indicate that the spaceport will feature a triangular runway/launchpad and domed passenger terminals

French "Spiderman" Alain Robert climbs the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority building in the United Arab Emirates. Unlike other urban climbers who use clamps or suction cups to scale structures, Robert only uses his bare hands and climbing shoes.

IF YOU GO: Facts About Dubai:
    1) Dubai has good connections with the rest of the world. Some 106 airlines operate from the city to almost 160 destinations worldwide. The airport has been expanded and has become one of the world's inter-continental transit centres, processing some 22 million passengers. By 2010 visitors are expected to reach 60 million.
    2) Most western European, American and Canadian citizens can enter the UAE without a prior visitor's visa, they can obtain their visas at the entry points.
    3) Autos rent at a reasonable price. A small auto, fully insured, costs about $30. per day - less if you bargain. Roads are excellent, but beware of huge traffic jams and two legged tigers driving autos.
    4) The U.S. dollar is equal to 3.67 UAE dirhams. The rate has remained the same for over two decades. Exchange cash or traveller cheques at the money exchangers - they do not take commission.
    5) Major international hotel chains are well represented in Dubai. However, there are other very reasonably priced and excellent abodes to be found throughout the city.
    6) One can find a meal for as low as $3., but the average cost of dining in good restaurants and hotels runs from $20. to $50. For luxury dining try the Al-Boom Tourist Village with its series of restaurants - some located on dhows. It specializes in Gulf dishes and all types of seafood.
    7) The best time to travel to Dubai is from mid January to mid February during the month-long "Shopping Festival" with its street parties as well as its shopping sales and bargains, held in a carnival atmosphere.
    8) Dubai is a shoppers' dream world - its more than 30 huge modern malls offer the products of literally all the nations on the globe.
