    A. Project Description:
    Electrocardiographs (ECG) are often used in hospitals for monitoring heart signals. From their output waveform, a
    doctor can detect abnormalities in the heartbeat. The signals generated from their electrodes which are attached to
    the patient are only few microvolts order. Therefore, a proper amplification of the signal is required prior to its
    visualisation. The project comprises two requirements.
    Requirement 1
    :

    The first goal of this project is to design and build an ECG which includes an isolation amplifier, a filter (to
    eliminate useless noises), and a postamplifier for further amplification of the filtered signal (Figure below):
    -
    The isolation amplifier provides a high CMR (Common mode rejection) to remove any common noise
    voltage associated with heart signals and electrical protection for the patient as well.
    -
    The low pass filter rejects frequencies above those contained in the heart signal. The cutoff frequency of
    the filter is 40 KHz.
    -
    The postamplifier provides most of the amplification in the system (Gain of 10).

    Requirement 2
    :

    The second requirement of the project is to activate an alarm (which consists of an LED) whenever the amplitude of
    the amplified output signal exceeds 3 Volts. Provide a possible solution using one of the non linear components you
    have taken in this course.
    B. Additional Questions:
    In addition to the detailed circuit design and experimental results, your report should include answers to the
    following questions:
    Question 1:
    For the non linear components you have used in the low pass filter module, demonstrate from their datasheets
    (available online) that the power supply you are using in your circuit does not exceed their maximal rating.
    Question 2:
    Provide a solution on how to store the amplified ECG signal in a computer (no implementation is required). You
    have to consider in your design that the amplified ECG signal is a digital signal whereas the computer accepts only
    digital signals.
