    help me

    I have oil/water emulsion which I want to separare.
    What are the methods available
    To break water in oil emulsion


    and i need the effects of presance of metals on the petroleum crude
    and on performance of some products


    i need the methods of desalting to removal salts which presance in petroleum

    for the frist problem u can add demulsifier agent
    and for the last problem to remove salts by water washing to make a mass transfer between high conc. of salts in oil to low conc. in water

    For an emulsion to exist, there must be two mutually immicible liquids (oil & Water)
    An emulsifying agent and also suffient agitation to desperse the continuous phase into the discontinuous phase.
    One of the methods to get rid of these droplets is to add Chemical demulsifiers -as my brother said- to neutralize the effect of the emulsifying agent.
    A common method for separating these emulsions is to heat the stream. increasing the temperature deactivates the emulsifying agent and reduce the viscosity of the oil phase allowing the dispersed water droplets to collide, and subsequently settle out of oil. But there are some side effects which must be put into account. Adding heat may lead to the loss of light hydrocarbons, making the crude heavier and thus decreasing its economic value. On the other hand it takes fuel (more cost)
    Desalting would generally be required if oil salinity is greater than 200.000 ppm.
    It is a washing process , adding water to oil stream then dehydrate the mixture . There may be a need for more than one stage of desalting an optimization procedure is required here to minimize the quantity of fresh water required to desalt.
