    Industrial Waste Treatment Handbook

    Summary

All industries produce waste products that unless treated or mitigated in some way will be harmful to the human or natural environment. These waste products will generally need to be identified according to the industrial process in question, neutralized or rendered less harmful and finally disposed of into the surrounding land, air or watercourses. It is therefore of vital importance to every environmental, pollution or plant manager or engineer that these processes be fully understood and implemented or the cost to either the company or the environment can be catastrophic.

With increasing government regulation of pollution, as well as willingness to levy punitive fines for transgressions, and the ever-present financial imperative to carry out these activities in the most efficient and cost-effective manner it is the responsibility of the professionals in question to ensure that they have the most up-to-date information available at their disposal. This book provides not only that, but the only available methodology for identifying which waste types are produced from which industrial processes, and how they can be treated. This unique feature makes this book one that every environmental, industrial and plant manager, engineer and consultant will want to have on their bookshelf.

Essential aspect of, and requirement for, all manufacturing industry
The only up-to-date book on this subject area available
Takes a practical applications standpoint, not a theoretical approach

    Continuous System Simulation
Author: Francois E. Cellier Ernesto Kofman
    Publisher: Springer
    Publication Date: 2006-03-15
    Number Of Pages: 643

Continuous System Simulation describes systematically and methodically how mathematical models of dynamic systems, usually described by sets of either ordinary or partial differential equations possibly coupled with algebraic equations, can be simulated on a digital computer. Modern modeling and simulation environments relieve the occasional user from having to understand how simulation really works. Once a mathematical model of a process has been formulated, the modeling and simulation environment compiles and simulates the model, and curves of result trajectories appear magically on the user’s screen. Yet, magic has a tendency to fail, and it is then that the user must understand what went wrong, and why the model could not be simulated as expected. Continuous System Simulation is written by engineers for engineers, introducing the partly symbolical and partly numerical algorithms that drive the process of simulation in terms that are familiar to simulation practitioners with an engineering background, and yet, the text is rigorous in its approach and comprehensive in its coverage, providing the reader with a thorough and detailed understanding of the mechanisms that govern the simulation of dynamical systems. Continuous System Simulation is a highly software-oriented text, based on MATLAB. Homework problems, suggestions for term project, and open research questions conclude every chapter to deepen the understanding of the student and increase his or her motivation. Continuous System Simulation is the first text of its kind that has been written for an engineering audience primarily. Yet due to the depth and breadth of its coverage, the book will also be highly useful for readers with a mathematics background. The book has been designed to accompany senior and graduate students enrolled in a simulation class, but it may also serve as a reference and self-study guide for modeling and simulation practitioners

Practical Hazops, Trips and Alarms, First Edition

    Author: David Macdonald
    Edition: (September 9, 2004)
    Paperback: 352 pages
Do you have trips and safety interlocks in your plant? Are they good enough or are they perhaps over-designed and much more expensive than necessary? Are you or your company aware of how Hazard Studies should define risk reduction requirements? Are you actually using Hazard Studies at all?
The answer is the integrated approach to safety management. New international standards combined with well-proven hazard study methods can improve safety management in your company.

Practical Hazops, Trips and Alarms for Engineers and Technicians describes the role of hazard studies in risk management, and then proceeds with basic training in Hazop techniques.
A number of practical exercises support the reference information and allow you to test your understanding of the material in the book.

This book aims to bridge the discipline gap between hazard studies and the provision of safety-related alarm and trip systems. It provides training in hazard and operability methods (Hazops) and in the principles of safety instrumented systems as defined by international standard IEC 61508.

    1. Design an integrated safety management system to increase efficiency and reduce costs
    2. Learn how to carry out hazard and operability studies (Hazops) and find out how to convert Hazop outputs into safety requirements specifications
    3. Implement safety instrumented systems to the new IEC standards (IEC61508)

    Practical Production Control
A Survival Guide for Planners and Schedulers

By: Kenneth N. McKay Vincent C. S. Wiers
Clearly defining the challenges of daily production control, Practical Production Control: A Survival Guide for Planners and Schedulers is a soup-to-nuts, practical guide and desk reference that gives you the skill set required to meet today's real-world challenges. It explains how the scheduling task can be decomposed and organized; how the production control department can be structured; how to hire, train, and evaluate schedulers; how scheduling changes with the life cycle of the product and processes within the plant; and how software tools can be used to augment the scheduler's skill.

Most books on this subject describe production control from an idealistic perspective. This book describes real planning and scheduling — what a scheduler needs to think about when he or she gets into the office, when the boss asks for something impossible, and when the information received is not correct. Taking you behind closed doors, into the factory at 6:00 am, behind the scheduler's desk, and into the planning meetings, this book explores how to identify limiting factors for improved production control and provides a number of techniques for taking production control to the next level. While developed primarily for planners and schedulers, most any manufacturing or supply chain professional will gain value from this book

Post Maintenance Fundamentals, Second Edition - Plant Engineering

    Maintenance Fundamentals
    (Plant Engineering Series)

    Keith Mobley
    2nd Edition 2004
    4,74 Mb

Maintenance Fundamentals includes modules that provide the practical knowledge required to effectively select, install, maintain, and troubleshoot critical plant machinery, equipment, and systems. Topics covered include shaft alignment, bearings, couplings and clutches, flexible intermediate drives, gears and gear drives, lubrication, packing and seals, and rotor balancing.

This is the first book in a new series published by Butterworth-Heinemann in association with PLANT ENGINEERING magazine. PLANT ENGINEERING fills a unique information need for the men and women who operate and maintain industrial plants. It bridges the information gap between engineering education and practical application. As technology advances at increasingly faster rates, this information service is becoming more and more important. Since its first issue in 1947, PLANT ENGINEERING has stood as the leading problem-solving information source for America's industrial plant engineers, and this book series will effectively contribute to that resource and reputation
