    Fundamental Idioms in English!!

    Hi all ,
    Here i`ll start with you some Fundamental Idioms in English
    actually i have collected them from a good book ,it was written by Qahtan F. Al Khatib
    and to take the benefites from this book i`ll give you the book as parts as very short lessons to be sufficiently usefull for you and to be easier to review

    let`s start with lesson 1......................


    Above all
    (mainly , most importantly (
    أهم من كل شيء وقبل كل شيء
    Above all ,remeber to send us your comments


    All day long
    the entire day , continuously

    طوال اليوم

    She has been working hard all day long.

    All of a suddden
    suddenly
    فجأة

    We were talking and all of a sudden Tom appeared .

    As a matter of fact
    in fact
    في الحقيقة
    As a matter of fact he is a generous person.

    To back out
    to withdraw
    ينقض أو يتراجع أو يتنصل عن

    we ware all set to sign the agreement when Smith backed out .


    To be bound for
    to be going in a certain direction

    متجه الى
    Our bus is bound for Makkah.


    To be cut out for
    to be designed for, serve as
    يصلح , يليق , مناسب

    This dress is not cut out for you

    To be in charge of

    to manage , to be responsible

    مسؤول عن , متعهد ب

    Mona is in charge of the office while the manager is away.


    to be taken in
    to be cheated
    يغش و يخدع
    Old lady was taken in because of his smooth manner of talking and gave him all her savings money to invest for her.


    to be well off
    to be rich
    عندما تصبح غنيا بشيء
    She came from well off family.

    to stop functioning ,said generally of motors and similar mechanical objects

    His car broke down ,and had to tow it to a garage.

    متأهب ,مستعد
    we were all set to sign the agreament ,when Smith backed out.

    to adjust through usage something which is new and stiff
    التغلب على قسوة سلعة جديدة
    My shoes are hurting me ,i`ll bee glad when they are broken in !!

    The thief broke loose from the police and ran away.

    to enter by force
    يقتحم عنوة
    The thief broke into the house last night.

    to put an end to
    قطع علاقة

    I may break off relation with that girl.

    to break out

    to accur suddenly
    Sana was living in Maiami when the war broke out.

    to bring about
    to cause something to happen
    يحدث
    The accident was brought about by Ahmed`s carelessness.

    to bring .....back
    to return
    يرجع

    I`ll bring the book back to the library by tomorrow.

    to bring out
    to produce
    They try to bring out one new book each month.

    Fundamental idioms means some expressions that you can not translate it as individual words because it will gives you different meaning ,therefore , the combination between all words are giving you the idiom which usually is talked by the native people who are knowing the exact meaning for example :
    it costs an arm and a leg
    and this means it is very expensive

    hope that i could explain my point correctly
