Lesson (4) .. Reading

hey people , how r u??? regardless of the poor participation is this thread of most of u, except the great support from eng.amani , i will continue writing in this thread, hope we get more ineraction, so that we all can benefit of this thread by discussing the issues included in it..

today i have stolen a short story from one of our friends here in this forum (Jawad Kazzem Hussain)... actually he added a thread in which he uploaded an interesting file, which is about a collection of some short stories... so today's lesson will be about one of these stories

i'll put the story here.. like what i said before, in the first lesson, i advise u
(1) to read the story without translating any word of the words that u don't already know,
(2) try to understand the whole meaning of the story,
(3) move to the vocabulary and their meanings below, and try to memorize them,
(4) then read the story again after memorizing the difficult vocabulary in it

let's go

Vocabulary

Haircut = حلاقة ، قص الشعر
Bald = أصلع
Crown = مقدمة الرأس
Plenty = وفرة
Sink = مغسلة
Drain = مصرف، بالوعة
Clipper = ماكينة الحلاقة
Blade = شفرة
Toothbrush = فرشاة أسنان
Trash can = سلة المهملات

my opinion about the story
i think it's a normal story, it's not that much interesting one ; however, i learnt of it a great expression, which is the
"salt and pepper"
hair
the expression "salt and pepper" in this stort doesn't related to food, but it means:
a mixture of gray and dark brown hair

hope u all benefit of this lesson, as much as i did

in colors, ur right.. the gray color is a mixture of white and black colors... but here it's different.. it's only a simile

gray hair is the salt.. and dark brown hair is the pepper... he didn't talk about the mixtures of colors

The temper boy

There was a boy who was always losing his temper.
His father gave him a bag full of nails and said to him“My son, I want you to hammer a nail into our garden fence every
time you need to direct your anger against something and
you lose your temper.”

So the son started to follow his father’s advice. On the first day
he hammered in 37 nails, but getting the nails into the fence
was not easy, so he started trying to control himself and try not to lose his temper.
As the days went by, he was hammering in less nails, and within
weeks he was able to control himself and was able to refrain from
getting and from hammering nails. He came to his father and told him
what he had achieved. His father was with his efforts and said to
him: “But now, my son, you have to take out a nail for
every day that you do not get angry.”

The son started to take out the nails for each day that he
did not get angry, until there were no nails left in the fence.

He came to his father and told him what he had achieved.
His father took him to the fence and said

, “My son, you have done well, but look at these holes in the fence. This fence

will never be the same again.”

Then he added: “When you say
things in a state of anger, they leave marks like these holes
on the hearts of others. You can stab a person and withdraw the knife
but it doesn’t matter how many times you say ‘I’m sorry,’ because
the wound will remain.

WwoOoOwW... eng.amani.. i do admit that ur soooo clever may allah be always with u

actually i may agree with u, but i think it depends on the person himself..

i mean, for me, if someone hurt me, i would really feel so sad .. but if he said sorry, and if he tried to apologize, or if he tried to explain his attitude to me, i could think in two ways..

1- if he weren't that close friend to me, i would forgive him for sure, but like what the story says, i can't forget such tough things , so i would be again his friend, but in a very formal relation

2- if he were one of my close friends, i would forgive him too, and i would forget everything , like nothing happenned between us before

3- but if he didn't apologize, i mean if he didn't admit that he offended me.. i would forget about him forever, and i wouldn't forgive him..

that's just my opinion about the story, but i can't generalize my opinion coz people have different thoughts and different beliefs..

i liked fathers way to teach his son
he did not punish him at all
he first told him to explode his energy
coz this will make him cool down
at the same time this work will give him a real picture about people feelings

we need to learn how to contorl our selves
also know that person are good from inside but the conditions which they faced changed them

i got this story from far away coz i liked it

would u mind if i add another or it is enough?????

for the red phrasal verb, i think u meant (calm down), didn't u??.. so u can say: to calm him down

btw, i would be happy if u added more stories , but actually i'd prefer that u add these stories in a new thread in which u can add stories, and we discuss and talk about them.. i mean u can put a new thread, and name it an encouraging name , like:
new story ... new discussion
do u agree with me??
if u agree, i'm waiting for ur new thread
