    How To Calculate The The Head (suction Head And The Discharge Head) For A Pipeline System To Be Used To Pump A Crude Oil

    Dear brother
    the calcualtion of the Total Head of pipeline system is as of bellow
    H = (h1-h2) + hf+ha+hv+z
    where
    H = Tot6al Head
    h1 = up stearm pressure
    h2 = down stream pressure
    hf = friction head = f*l*v2/(2*g*d
    f= form mody diagram
    l= pipeline length
    v= velocity
    g= accelration
    d= pipe diameter
    ha= ca * v2/(2*g
    ca = the local loses of pipeline (elows + vavles+ etc
    hv= v2/2g
    z= the variation of sending to recieving

    the total loss of the suction should be not exceed the required Net Poative Suction Head to avoid the cavitation which will break the pump in fiture

    in all the pipeline system design the first thing they used the TOTAL HEAD EQUATION above after that you have to selet the pipe diameter then depend on your H total and dia and Flow rate you can select your pump, by using H.Q curve for the pump and the system after that you can nomnate the optemum operation point, after that you need to know how many pump you want to operate this system that is easy by divided the TOTAL HEAD/ THE PUPM HEAD which you can take from pump body(written) . after that by using Hydraulic gradiant to locate the pumps at the correct positions.
