Productivity Engineering
· Productivity engineering is really a subset of industrial engineering because, while industrial engineers design, develop, and install integrated systems of people, machines, and materials, “productivity engineers” are concerned with the design, installation, and maintenance of productivity measurement, productivity evaluation and planning, and productivity improvement systems.
· The formal definition offered is as follows:
Productivity engineering is concerned with the design, development, and maintenance of productivity measurement, evaluation, planning, and improvement systems in manufacturing and service organizations.
· The more direct effort of productivity engineering to maintain and improve the productivity of systems designed and installed by industrial engineers can be instrumental in addressing the productivity aspects of a system.
